Day 8 Argentina Destroys Serbia and Montenegro
Posted by Carlito on 2006-06-17 Things got worst for Serbia and Montenegro in the second half, when the referee gave Mateja Kezman a straight red for a two foot forward challenge. Carlos Tevez and Lionel Messi came off from the bench and the rest of the match was about the two youngsters. First, a quick free kick, a nice run with the ball from Messi in the box, a smart pass and an easy tap in for Crespo. Then, Tevez went through two defenders and placed a nice shot in the far corner to beat the poor Serbian keeper. Finally, another nice run from Messi in the space and he would finish himself this time to give Argentina their 6th goal. A World Cup to forget for Serbia and Montenegro. The Holland and Ivory Coast match was great to watch, and once again Ivory Coast deserved better than their 2-1 lost. The first half was entertaining; Van Persie opened the score with a powerful free kick, and Van Nistelrooy doubled the score for the Dutch later on with a clinical finish. Ivory Coast pulled one back before the end of the half with a goal from Kono. While no goals were score in the second half, it was far from boring. Ivory Coast pressed for the equalizer all through the half but couldn't come up with a proper finish. Holland and Argentina are through to the next round and Ivory Coast is an undeserved victim of the Group of Death and will be missed in the rest of this World Cup. Finally, Angola gave an inspiring display to force a draw against Mexico in group D. The match finish 0-0. Angola was even reduced to 10 men at the end of the match and if it wasn't for the heroic play of Angola's goalkeeper Ricardo, the scoreline would have been different. |
