Day 4 And The Goals Keep Flowing
Posted by Carlito on 2006-06-12
In the first match of the day, Australia scored 3 goals in the last 10 minutes to beat Japan 3-1. Japan lead the game from early on, thanks to a strange goal, where the goalkeeper seemed to have been impeded. However, it was the Socceroos who dominated the game, but they weren't able to buy a goal. It seemed like Japan was going to hold on to their lead, until Cahill scored the first of his two straight goals in the 84th minutes, the second coming afterwards in the 89th. Aloisi then settled the game with a goal in injury time.
Meanwhile, the USA were taught a soccer lesson by a great Czech Republic side. Koller scored first with a great header. Then it was the Tomas Rosicky show. The new Arsenal signing first scored an amazing goal with a sniping shot from long range. He would try the same in the second half, but would hit the crossbar this time. Nonetheless, moment later Rosicky would break free and score his second of the match on a breakaway. 3-0 was the final score and there wasn't much to be proud about for the Americans.
Finally, Italy played confidently and won over Ghana 2-0. Pirlo scored in the first half, and Iaquinta sealed the deal at the end of the match. Ghana didn't play bad for say, and they had some good occasions to score, but were never able to provide a decent finish to any of their build ups. The Azzurri will now be looking forward to their next match against the USA while Ghana will face the Czech next.
