Day 19th Brazil France
Posted by Carlito on 2006-06-29 Ronaldo scored in the 5th minute and became the highest scorer in World Cup history with now 15 goals. Ghana took the game to Brazil, but was simply not able to finish. They created many chances but they were never able to complete their build ups. Adriano and Zé Roberto completed the score for Brazil in the 45th and 84th minute. Spain had been great for the whole tournament, while France had struggled, but it was the latter that came through when it mattered. Spain took the lead early, thanks to a penalty that David Villa converted. However, before the end of the half, Ribery was sent on a breakaway by Vieira and scored for the French side. We would then have to wait until the end of the second half to see France score again, when Vieira headed a free kick that bounced off a Spain defender. Zidane then added a third while Spain was throwing men forwards to try to get the tying goal. Spain has a reputation of being World Cup underachievers, but it really seemed like this year they were going to change that. Unfortunately, they were never able to get in full gear and play like they had in the group stage. France will now face Brazil in the quarterfinals. Last time they met it was in the 1998 World Cup finals when France won. You can bet Brazil will want to get revenge 8 years later. |
