Day 12th Ecuador England Germany Sweden
Posted by Carlito on 2006-06-21

Things are speeding in the Germany World Cup 2006, and there's now four games per day. Group A games saw Germany clinch first position after beating second place finisher Ecuador 3-0. It was an easy victory for Germany who won the three matches of their group.

In the other group match, Poland concluded their World Cup short run on a good note by beating Costa Rica, even after the latter had taken the lead in the first half. However, two goals from Bosacki, allowed Poland to finish in third position of the group with 3 points.

In the Group B matches, England was trying to avoid having to face Germany in the next round while Sweden still wasn't guarantee to qualify. They tied 2-2 thanks to a late equalizer by Henrik Larsson, which means England will face Ecuador and Sweden, Germany in the next phase.

It was a hard battled match, but very costly for England who lost, yet another striker, Michael Owen to a bizarre knee injury in the first minute of the match. He's out of the World Cup and could be out for as long as 5 months from any soccer play.

Finally, Paraguay erased any hopes for Trinidad and Tobago to qualify by beating them 2-1. Trinidad needed a win and a Sweden lost, which didn't happen anyway, to qualify. The win is a positive point for Paraguay, and both team can be proud as they weren't outclassed in their matches against group favorites England and Sweden - Trinidad and Tobago even held Sweden to a tie and were close to doing the same to England.
