Day 11 Ukraine Bounce Back
Posted by Carlito on 2006-06-20

It was the last day of the second round of group matches in the Germany World Cup. Switzerland beat Togo 2-0 in a somewhat tight game. Togo came out strong in the first half, but it was Frei who was able to score one for his team, while Barnetta scored a late one in the second half to confirm the Swiss victory.

Ukraine bounced back from their 4-0 defeat against Spain, and inflicted the same result on Saudi Arabia (4-0). Ukraine dominated the game, especially in the air, where the Saudis were totally outclassed. Shevchenko also scored his first World Cup goal and his good form is good news for the Ukrainians.

Finally, Spain came back from a 0-1 deficit to win against Tunisia. Tunisia were able to take the lead early in the match, but vital substitutions in the second half (Raul, Fabregas, Joaquin), allowed Spain to come back from behind. It was Raul who scored the tying goal after jumping on a rebound of a Fabregas shot. Minutes later, Fabregas would send Torres on a breakaway, and the young Spaniard easily beat the Tunisian keeper, who had been amazing before this. Finally, Torres was pulled down while trying to head a Raul cross, and Torres scored from the ensuing penalty kick.

With one match left against Saudi Arabia, Spain are already qualified for the next round and will face either France, Switzerland or South Korea in the next phase.
