Day 10 Brazil Go Through France Struggles
Posted by Carlito on 2006-06-19

Not a lot of goals were scored in Day 10 of the Germany World Cup 2006. In the first match, Japan and Croatia tied 0-0. Japan owe their result to goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi who was great during the whole match, even stopping a penalty shot. Croatia was the more threatening of the two sides, although Japan could and should have taken the lead in the second half after a terrible Atsushi Yanagisawa miss.

Both team can still qualify if they win their last match and depending on each other's results.

In the other match of the group, Brazil won 2-0 over Australia. The Socceroos may feel hard done after getting many questionable calls go against them during the game. They might even miss Kewell in the next game, who's been accused by FIFA of insulting the referee. Nonetheless, the Brazilian came through thanks to goals by Adriano in the 49th minute and substitute Fred in the 89th. Brazil is through to the next World Cup round, but can feel lucky they were in an easier group.

Finally, France scored their first goal in 8 years in the World Cup, but it wasn't enough and the game against South Korea finished tied 1-1. It seemed like France had learnt their lesson from their previous game, and things were rolling their way in the 9th minute when Henry beat the keeper with a easy finish of Wiltord's work. However, France started protecting their lead and Manchester's midfielder Park was finally able to pull both teams leveled in the 81st minute.

Some might start to question France coach's decision to play defensive, as well as not playing Juventus ace striker David Trezeguet. Furthermore, Zidane and Abidal both picked up their second yellow in so many matches and will miss France's last group match against Togo where only an at least 2 goal difference win may be sufficient to go through. Things doesn't look good for France.
