07 FIFA Review
Posted by Insane Soccer on 2006-10-04

The world (or at least the web) is buzzing with the release of FIFA 07, the much anticipated football successor to FIFA 06. For those who have already joined the FIFA 2007 fray, their comments represent a mixed bag of reactions.

Many, such as this dude: "The crowd is awesome!", and this FIFA07 fan: "They're doing good stuff…with regard to the Academy feature in manager mode" clearly like what they see. Others have had a more tepid ("Come up with a reserve team…and league if you really want to do it right") or downright violent ("I am not buying this… crap!") reaction to playing FIFA 07.

What makes FIFA2007 so incredibly controversial? For some, it's the feeling that EA didn't set the bar high enough for itself. However, it's mostly just because you can't possibly please everybody and, let's face it, who doesn't enjoy bitching about a faceless corporation once in a while?

But let's get down to brass tacks and talk footy, namely what's available in FIFA 2007.

First, the soundtrack rocks with global heart-thumping, get your fingers flying and your booty moving (at least figuratively), tunes. No need to jump on an airplane – you'll be transported to Portugal, Denmark, Japan, and Brazil thanks to EA's commitment to providing players with something for the ears as well as the eyes.

Secondly, the graphics have been adjusted so that players and movements are based in physics. What does that mean for you? More realistic football action intended to keep you on the edge of your seat by incorporating enhanced shooting mechanics into player movement ability. And a high level of responsiveness is touted by EA, though FIFA2007 users have had mixed experiences in that realm.

Third, FIFA07 players have been given what EA calls a "football brain". (Watch out – they might become smarter than the gamers some day and take over cyberspace!) Consequently, teams don't move as one senseless unit; as in real football, each player makes his or her own decisions and the goalkeeper makes prudent on-the-spot decisions. This heightens the overall realism of the FIFA 07 play.

Fourth, with FIFA 2007, you can experience online interactive leagues, meaning when your favorite teams play, you can "play" with them. It makes watching the telly a lot more exciting (and you might lose weight even though you're not moving – it's tough to game, watch, and scarf pizza at the same time.) Additionally, EA has ensured that more than 500 of your top football teams from 20 different nations are represented, right down to accurate badges.

Fifth, the managerial mode has been improved and values and wages tweaked. This gives you more control as you send your football athletes in search of accolades and victory.

Finally, the stadium literally is alive with chanting, cheering, and taunting. Plus, the weather can turn stormy, meaning you'll be sending the 11 players on your FIFA07 team to compete in the muddy playing field.

So, will FIFA 07 make you shudder or smile? There's only one way to find out…
